After finishing the 2021-22 NBA season with a record of 30-52, 12th in the NBA western conference, the Sacramento Kings will embark on the search for a new head coach, after deciding to move on from interim head coach Alvin Gentry.
Gentry tallied a 24-41 record as interim head coach for Sacramento, after taking over mid-season for former head coach Luke Walton, who was let go on November 21, 2021.
The Kings have employed 11 different head coaches since deciding to not renew the contract of legendary, Hall of Fame head coach Rick Adelman, after the 2005-06 season. That 2005-06 season what the last time the Sacramento Kings made the playoffs.
Sacramento Kings Head Coaching Candidates
The Sacramento Kings and general manager Monte McNair are on the search for their next head coach. A head coach who will be tasked with leading the Sacramento Kings to the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2005-06.
A few names that experts and fans have thrown around have been – Kenny Atkinson, Mike Brown, Darvin Ham, Sam Cassell, Mark Jackson, and Terry Stotts. Even former Kings head coach Dave Joerger has been mentioned a lot! It will be VERY interesting to see what candidates emerge through the process, how long the process takes, and so much more!
A few more names have emerged after the Kings officially decided to not retain Gentry.
What Do YOU Think?
I always like to know what the fans think! Who would you like to see as the Sacramento Kings next head coach? What ‘traits’ would you like to see their next head coach?
